Very often the question arises of how you can come to Ukraine. Do you need or do not need a visa? Etc. For clarity, you need to know about the D visa to Ukraine.
What is type D visa.
This is a visa that is issued by foreigners in order to obtain a temporary or permanent residence permit in Ukraine.
Who needs a D visa to Ukraine:
citizens of countries that have a visa regime with Ukraine.
Who does not need a D visa:
There are several such countries. They have a completely visa-free regime with Ukraine.
The main difference between visa D and visa C.
First. On the basis of visa D, you get the opportunity to obtain a temporary residence permit in Ukraine.
Second. You can get a D visa only if there are certain grounds (the goals of your long stay in Ukraine). The grounds are established by law. It can be study, marriage, business, immigration, and so on.
Third. Without a D visa, it is impossible to apply for a residence permit (important !!! this does not apply to residents of visa-free countries).
The period for which a visa is issued D.
As a general rule, a D visa provides an opportunity to stay on the territory of Ukraine for 90 days. The visa is valid for 1 year.
Thus, you have the right to arrive in Ukraine for 90 days within 1 year. The visa is usually reusable. You can enter and leave Ukraine an unlimited number of times.
The D visa issued for obtaining permanent residence (permanent residence permit) is valid for 10 years.
The D visa can be renewed.
Start of visa processing D.
Before submitting an application, you must register on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (visa.mfa.gov.ua) and fill out the form. After filling it out, you will receive information about the date when you must come to the embassy (consulate) and apply for a visa. This is a mandatory procedure that will make it possible to track the status of visa processing.
Submission of documents for a visa D.
An application for a visa is submitted exclusively to the embassies (consulates) of Ukraine abroad. It is impossible to do this in Ukraine.
Citizens of countries at risk of migration are eligible to apply for a D visa only in the country of citizenship or in the country where they have a temporary or permanent residence permit.
Countries that have a completely visa-free regime with Ukraine do not issue a D visa. Citizens of these countries just need to cross the state border with documents confirming the purpose of the visit to Ukraine.
Citizens of all other countries have the right to apply to any Consulate of Ukraine.

Documents required for obtaining a visa D.
Application form of the established form.
Foreigner’s passport document
A document on the basis of which a foreigner is going to stay in Ukraine (basis). This can be an invitation from an educational institution, a marriage certificate, a work permit, an immigration permit (in the case of a permanent residence permit).
One color photograph, size 3.5 * 4.5.
A valid health insurance policy with a cost coverage of at least EUR 30,000. It can be issued both in Ukraine and abroad.
A document confirming the financial condition. It can be a certificate from a bank, a statement from a card account, cash. The amount for 90 days must be $ 3500.
A document confirming the payment of the consular fee.
Expedited visa processing D.
The standard term for consideration of documents is up to 10 days, accelerated to 5 days. It all depends on the workload of the Consulate. The amount of $ 65 and $ 130 in the case of an accelerated procedure for consideration of documents. As a rule, the accelerated registration procedure does not apply to citizens from countries of Migration Risk.
Submission of documents for a residence permit after obtaining a visa D.
It is necessary to apply for a residence permit 15 working days before the end of the legal period of stay in Ukraine, otherwise the whole procedure will have to be repeated.
